Absinthe Spoon Holders, Sugar Holders & Saucers
|
These are all essential accouterments to the absinthe ritual, and would have been found
in any well-equipped Belle Epoque bar or café.
Spoon holders held a stock of absinthe spoons for the use of patrons (the same vessel,
with the addition of a slotted lid, was also sometimes used as a tip jar).
Sugar cubes were served at the table on small circular platters, but on the bar counter
would be a handsome jar full of sugar - often these were manufactured from the same
moulds as those used to make the glass reservoirs for absinthe fountains.
Glasses were always served on a small saucer, called a "sous-verre". These served to
protect the table, and sometimes were price-marked, indicating the cost of the drink.
As always, these high quality replicas are faithful copies of the rare circa 1900 originals.
